Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a disorder that occurs when the tissue lining the uterus (endometrium) begins to grow outside of the uterus. The tissue may grow onto the outer wall of the uterus, ovaries or fallopian tubes, the intestines, and organs in the belly.

Symptoms include:

  • Painful periods
  • Pain with intercourse
  • Pain during urination or painful bowel movements
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Infertility
  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Bloating
  • Nausea

Treatment depends on the severity of symptoms and whether you want to get pregnant. Lowering the body’s estrogen levels through hormone therapy may reduce pain. If you want to become pregnant, having surgery, infertility treatment, or both may help.
